Track your internet time

If you’re on the journey to productive use of the internet and you don’t have a framework yet, start by tracking your web activity.

You will need to do this only in the initial stage when you’re just optimizing for productivity. Once you develop productive browsing habits, you will not need to do this anymore.

The basic process is as follows:

  • Step 1: Add a web time tracking app to your browser
  • Step 2: Browse the internet as you would usually do
  • Step 3: After at least one week (include weekends if you’re optimizing for them too), review your browsing data
  • Step 4: Find the top 3 most distracting websites and block them for the next month using any website blocking extension.
  • Step 5: Use willpower, stay put, and you will find that you could live (and thrive) without those distracting websites.

Repeat the above steps until you have all distractions out of the way.
